Baked, Not Fried: Lighter Chicken Wings in McKinney

Baked buffalo chicken wings with carrots, celery and ranch at Durkin's Pizza in McKinney

Wings and pizza go together like game day and a full couch. But a lot of wings come out of a deep fryer, soaked in oil before the sauce ever hits them. At Durkin’s Pizza in McKinney, we do it differently: we start with raw chicken wings, marinate them in our own seasoning, and bake them in the oven – never fried. The result is a crispy, juicy wing you can feel good about ordering.

It Starts with Raw Wings

Instead of reheating wings that were cooked or fried somewhere else, we buy raw, bone-in chicken wings and prepare them right here in our kitchen at Custer Rd & SH 121. Starting from raw means we control every step – how they’re seasoned, how long they cook and how they taste when they reach your table.

Marinated in Our House Seasoning

Before they ever see the oven, our wings are marinated in Durkin’s own seasoning blend. Giving the seasoning time to work into the meat means the flavor goes all the way to the bone, not just on the surface. That’s why our wings taste great even with no sauce at all.

Baked, Never Fried

Here’s the big difference. Deep-fried wings are cooked by submerging them in hot oil, and the skin soaks some of that oil up. Our wings never go in a fryer. We bake them in the oven, where the heat crisps the skin and lets the chicken’s own fat render out instead of adding more.

You still get what you want from a great wing – a crispy outside and a juicy inside – without the extra frying oil. It’s the same reason so many home cooks have switched to oven-baked and air-fried wings.

A Lighter, Guilt-Free Way to Enjoy Wings

Because they’re baked instead of fried, our wings skip the added fat that comes from a deep fryer, which makes them a lighter choice than typical fried wings. Want to keep it even lighter?

  • Go Naked or Garlic Parmesan. Our Naked wings let the house seasoning shine with no sauce added.
  • Add carrots & celery. Fresh veggies with ranch are an easy add-on, and they come with our 20-wing platter.
  • Pair them with a salad. A half-size Arugula, Greek or Spinach salad rounds out the meal.
  • Choose a lighter crust. Having pizza too? Try a gluten-free or cauliflower crust.

Six Sauces, Your Way

Once they’re baked, we toss your wings in the sauce of your choice: Naked, Garlic Parmesan, Buffalo, Barbecue, Hot or our sweet-and-spicy Korean-style Gochujang. Order 6 wings for yourself, 12 to share, or the 20-wing platter with veggies and ranch for a crowd. See prices on our wings page.

Great Wings at a Price That’s Hard to Beat

Eating lighter shouldn’t cost more. Our baked wings are some of the best value around Custer & 121:

  • 6 wings for $9.99 – a filling lunch or snack for one
  • 12 wings for $18.99 – perfect for sharing
  • 20 wings with veggies & ranch for $26.99 – about $1.35 a wing, with carrots, celery and ranch included

All six sauces are included in the price – no upcharge for your favorite. Check our weekly deals for even more ways to save.
