Pizza and Wings for Game Day: How to Plan Your Order?

Durkin's Pizza game-day spread with a large pizza, baked wings, salads and potato wedges

Friday night lights, college football Saturdays, NFL Sundays and Monday night games – fall in North Texas runs on football, and nothing feeds a watch party like pizza and wings. The hard part isn’t deciding what to eat; it’s figuring out how much to order so nobody goes hungry and you aren’t left with three boxes of leftovers. Here’s a simple game plan from Durkin’s Pizza at Custer Rd & SH 121 in West McKinney.

Step 1: Count Your Crowd

Start with a head count, then think about who’s coming. Teenagers and hungry adults eat more than young kids, and a long game (or a doubleheader) means people keep coming back to the table. As a starting point when pizza and wings are both on the table:

  • Pizza: about one 16” large for every three to four adults. Our 14” medium is about the size of most chains’ large, so mediums work well for smaller groups and kids.
  • Wings: about five or six wings for each wing fan. Not everyone eats wings, so count the people who will.
  • Sides: one order of Durkin’s Famous Cheesy Bread for every six to eight people, plus a salad if you want something fresh on the table.

When in doubt, round up by one pizza. Leftover pizza is never a problem the next morning.

Step 2: Mix Your Pizzas

A good game-day order covers a few tastes instead of one pie everybody has to agree on. Every pizza starts with dough we make fresh each morning from unbleached, unbromated flour, and it’s baked when you order. A balanced lineup looks like this:

  • A crowd-pleaser: cheese or pepperoni – the slices kids and picky eaters reach for first.
  • A loaded pie: the Meat (pepperoni, hamburger, Italian sausage, bacon) or the Kitchen Sink (pepperoni, hamburger, Italian sausage, green peppers, red onions, black olives).
  • Something different: BBQ Chicken, Buffalo Chicken, the spicy Chorizo Supreme or a creamy Alfredo pizza.
  • A meat-free option: the Veggie, Four Cheese or our paneer tikka pizza, a desi favorite that disappears fast.

Have guests who avoid gluten? Add a 10” gluten-free or cauliflower crust pizza just for them.

Step 3: Pick Your Wings and Sauces

Our bone-in wings are marinated in our house seasoning and baked in the oven, not fried, so they stay juicy and don’t leave the whole spread greasy. Order them by the 6, the 12, or the 20-wing platter, which comes with veggies and ranch – the easy choice for a bigger party.

Choose from six sauces: Naked, Garlic Parmesan, Buffalo, Barbecue, Hot and Gochujang. For a crowd, split your wings between one mild sauce (Garlic Parmesan or Barbecue) and one with heat (Buffalo or Hot) so everyone finds a favorite.

Step 4: Save With a Game-Day Deal

Football happens on almost every day of the week, and so do our weekly deals:

  • Monday night football: Good Start Monday – large 16” cheese pizza, $12.99.
  • Midweek games: We Love Family Wednesdays – two medium 14” pizzas with 2 toppings, $24.98.
  • College football Saturdays: the Saturday Special – large 16” 2-topping pizza plus 6 baked wings in any sauce, $24.99.
  • NFL Sundays: Sunday Funday – medium 14” cheese pizza, $9.99.

Stack a deal with a few full-price pies and a wing platter, and a big spread costs less than you’d think.

Step 5: Order Before Kickoff

Game days are some of our busiest hours, and everyone wants their food at the same moment. Place your order well before the game starts so the pizza is on your table for the opening drive, not halftime. For a large order, give us a call so we can plan the timing with you.

  • Pickup: order online and grab it on the way home – we’re on the northeast corner of Custer Rd and SH 121, next to QuikTrip, with free parking.
  • Delivery: see the delivery options on our order online page. We deliver around Craig Ranch, Stonebridge Ranch, Adriatica, The Grove Frisco and nearby neighborhoods.
  • Phone: call 972.727.8400.
